Winning a short story competition spurred me on to writing scripts. I made a few short films, mostly written and produced by myself, enjoying the learning curve of my mistakes and ending up out of pocket. I then spent three years helping run theatre workshops with young youths in Manchester and enjoyed watching raw talent develop. Four multi-media theatre stage productions later and I had come to the conclusion; being able to ‘cut’ and ‘re-take’ far out-weighed three months of rehearsals and standing back stage with my heart in my mouth for two hours every night. The whole process and final aesthetic of a screen production was confirmed as my passion, definitely not theatre.
Living Colour Productions aims to bring something different to our tv and hopefully cinema screens. A UK Film Council survey of who actually wrote 40 British Films showed that 98% of the writers were white, predominantly male and shockingly not only were they over 46 years of age but over half were American. What Living Colour aims to do is fully embrace the UK in all it's glory. Representing essentially younger people of a much broader spectrum; women and diversity.
